The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has issued a strong caution regarding the circulation of counterfeit Tax Clearance and Tax Compliance Certificates (TCCs) as well as fabricated letters falsely indicating that legitimate certificates have been cancelled due to a system error. The Service emphasized that these documents are unauthorised, do not originate from FRCS, and may constitute criminal offences under Fijian law. Possession, use, or distribution of such falsified certificates can lead to substantial fines, imprisonment, or both. FRCS urged businesses, government ministries, financial institutions, procurement entities, and the general public to verify the authenticity of any certificate through the official FRCS Taxpayer Online Services Certificate Validation Portal before relying on it for official purposes. The warning was delivered by FRCS Chief Executive Officer Mr. Udit Singh, who stressed the seriousness of undermining the integrity of Fiji’s tax administration system. He highlighted that any fraudulent activity will be investigated and prosecuted, and called on stakeholders to retain any suspicious documents, suspend related transactions, and report the matter immediately to FRCS with detailed information. The Service also reiterated that legitimate certificate status changes are reflected only through its official systems and can be verified via the portal. This advisory underscores FRCS’s commitment to protecting the tax system’s credibility and maintaining public confidence.
