Government and Afreximbank Continue Negotiations for Mutually Beneficial Agreement

The Government of Equatorial Guinea and Afreximbank, the African trade‑finance institution headquartered in Cairo, have confirmed that they are continuing discussions aimed at finalising a mutually beneficial financing and cooperation agreement. The dialogue, which began earlier this year, focuses on leveraging Afreximbank’s expertise and financial resources to support Guinea’s economic diversification, infrastructure development, and private‑sector growth. Both parties have highlighted sectors of priority, including renewable energy, agriculture, and logistics, with the intent of mobilising capital for projects that generate employment and increase export capacity. In recent meetings, officials from the Ministry of Economy and Planning expressed appreciation for Afreximbank’s willingness to provide trade‑based financing, noting that such instruments can reduce reliance on traditional hydrocarbon revenues. Afreximbank representatives, meanwhile, outlined the bank’s willingness to structure syndicated loans, guarantee facilities, and trade‑credit facilities tailored to the country’s needs. The negotiations also explore potential joint ventures in sectors such as agro‑processing and tourism, with an emphasis on creating value‑added products for domestic and export markets. Analysts view the prospective partnership as a significant step toward deepening Guinea’s integration into continental trade networks, potentially unlocking billions of dollars in investment over the next decade. The government remains optimistic that a final agreement will be reached within the coming months, providing a catalyst for sustainable economic development.
